Capital Punishment

Capital punishment is the death penalty. Crimes carrying this punishment are known as capital crimes. Between 1500 and 1815 crimes punishable by death had risen from 50 to 225! This meant that some people who had to steal to survive, were hung and killed. Because the punishments during this time were so harsh, the legal system became known as the 'Bloody Code'.
